On this Independence Day holiday, I wanted to take a moment to discuss a small pet peeve. People who call today the 4th of July. Yes, that's the date., but by saying that, we make it no more important, no more valuable than any other day. Do we say Merry December 25th? Of course not, even though Christmas falls on the same day every year. We call it Christmas to help us remember the reason for the holiday. Don't you think we should do the same on Independence Day?
Here's my thought. We all tend to set New Years Resolutions each year. It helps us to focus on what we want to accomplish and it's a good day to do it with the start of the new year. I say we start a new tradition. Every year on Independence Day we choose something in our lives that no longer serves us and we declare our own independence. It's kind of a way to check in with ourselves halfway through the year and see if we are honoring our self, respecting our self, and living the life we want to live. We all have those things that we are dependent on. Dependence on drugs, relationships, feelings, emotions, jobs, whatever it may be. We cannot truly have freedom until we have independence. Earn your independence every day.
Happy Independence Day and Keep the Inner Peace.
